The responses divide sharply on gender lines, with a majority of men in the “anyone can succeed” camp and a majority of women in the “inequality is undermining opportunity” basket.
For women, that sentiment is shared across age groups and educational backgrounds. “It’s not just because women make less money. It’s not educational,” says Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Fred Yang. “Fundamentally, they have just very different views about economic opportunity.”
