Becoming one with the moment -- IN ITS ENTIRETY

I am immersed in reading/feeling Jack Kornfield's book A Path with a Heart* -- how poignant that I should 'discover'  this graphic as I begin this new week.
"To stop the war and come into the present is to discover a greatness of our own heart that can include the happiness of all beings that is inseparable from our own.  When we let ourselves feel the fear, the discontent, the difficulties we have always avoided, our heart softens.  Just as it is a courageous act to face all the difficulties from which we always run, it is also an act of compassion.  According to Buddhist scriptures, compassion is the 'quivering of pure heart.'"  (p. 27)

 The Complexity of Violence:
Publication Author:
Maria Eriksson Baaz, Maria Stern
Description:
A critical analysis of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) / This report, the first in Sida’s gender-based violence series, draws on an original case study, including extensive interviews with members of the armed forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). By critically exploring and convincingly challenging existing stereotypes and narratives about sexual violence in conflict settings, the authors reveal the need for a nuanced understanding of SGBV, including its invisible victims. Their analysis transcends reductionist explanations that separate SGBV from other forms of violence that afflict war-torn societies, and haunt post-war contexts. They thus provide invaluable insights into the complex circumstances in which SGBV occurs.

About gender equality

http://forumblog.org/2014/01/hard-facts-gender/

A brief excerpt from the article by Saadia Zahidi:
A page detailing the hard facts on gender confronts visitors to a Saudi academic’s office. It is sellotaped to the door. The page comes from the Global Gender Gap Report the World Economic Forum produces every year to inform the global debate on women. The last time I went home to Pakistan, I had the report quoted back to me by a campaigner for women’s rights who did not know I co-authored it. Information is empowering – it’s a vital tool in the hands of those striving to make change.
